Shameless Plea to Help Earthquake Victims in China

According to NPR's most recent reports, the death toll from the devastating magnitude-7.8 earthquake, which struck this past Monday in Sichuan Province, China, could hit 50,000. There are untold hundreds, perhaps thousands, still trapped beneath collapsed buildings and tens of thousands of survivors are in need of water, food, shelter and medical care.

The Kansas-based humanitarian organization Heart to Heart International has had a long-standing presence in China and their volunteers have jumped into action to deliver aid and provide medical assistance to quake survivors.

Please give what you can to Heart to Heart International.

Shameless Plea to Help the People of Myanmar (Burma)

Since the ludicrous political and bureaucratic stalling of Myanmar's ruling military junta has blocked US and other international aid from getting to the estimated one million people suffering from the devastation of Cyclone Nargis, which slammed into the nation's coastal regions five days ago, I have been holding off on my suggestion as to where y'all should send donations.

But today the first of four United Nations' planes loaded with aid supplies was permitted to land in Yangon, so I will offer up the suggestion that you give and give generously to the UN's World Food Programme.

To date, some 22,980 people have died and 42,119 are missing, mostly in the Irrawaddy delta. The grim death toll could rise to over 100,000 if safe food, clean water and medical aid do not reach the people immediately.

Please help by giving what you can--any amount will make a difference.
