Chicago: Snapshots: Delicious Cafe

My Chicago strategy is to drive as far towards the city as I can stand, then turn off Highway 41.  Today, I made it pretty far: I was going to head back to Metropolis, but realized I'd gone too far south, so I decided on Intelligentsia on Broadway.  I parked just south of Irving Park Road and stopped at a nearby Trader Joe's for a snack.  As I was walking back to my car to move it to a more long-term parking spot, a cafe caught my eye.  (I passed it, then realized I'd walked past a coffeehouse and backtracked.)  It's a lovely little place called Delicious Cafe.

 
I noticed a board with a few varieties of the "Best Cup of Coffee" priced around the three-dollar mark.  I didn't see a Clover; it turns out that this is actually Chemexed coffee (I think they use the three-cup glass handle model).  I ordered the El Salvador and a cinnamon raisin bagel.  The coffee, when brought to my table after the lengthy brewing process, was worth both the wait and the price, especially in light of the friendly, yet laid-back service.  When the server arrived at my table with the bagel and coffee, she realized the table was a bit dirty, so she got a towel and wiped it down.  The staff and I made a little small talk; I mentioned that I was from Milwaukee and had this website.  They wanted me to note that they are all vegan except for a little bit of regular milk they keep around for lattes and such.  I noticed they had a soy parfait with strawberries that looked really good.  Wonder what that is--yogurt made with soy milk?  I'll have to try it next time.

This should be a mandatory field trip for all the kids who work behind the counter in Milwaukee coffeehouses (some don't need it, but most do).  It would be a great lesson in providing good, friendly service and showing ownership of your workspace without having to catch "capitalist cooties."

looks like a cool place! i need to get down to the chicago area sometime this summer and hang out... i've been trapped in coffeeland pretty much consistently this summer, and i need to get out for a while!
