East Side/Riverwest: Snapshots: Stone Creek Shorewood

Today has been a great day! I did the Brown Deer Road - Cedarburg and back walk on the Ozaukee Interurban Trail, and I feel like I returned from Lourdes or something (I've been suffering from mysterious back and side aches, most likely due to excessive sitting and stress.) Speaking of that, I've basically resolved to wean myself off caffeine to the greatest extent possible, which will probably end up meaning cutting down to just enough to avoid withdrawal symptoms. All of my coffee stops today have been for decaf. Right now, I'm sitting at Stone Creek Coffee in Shorewood enjoying the mellow pre-closing atmosphere. I have to credit the friendly barista with going about his closing duties in a most unobtrusive manner. Nary a garbage bag has been opened in the half-hour or so I've been here!

Retail Coffee: Lion Coffee Supreme Roast Espresso

Thanks to the regular generosity of my Aunt Lynne, I received a bag of Lion Coffee Supreme Roast Espresso from Hawaii.  It is really good, especially for preground coffee.  It's fulfilled my summertime (well, almost) hankering for dark-roasted coffee.

"The Kletzsch Perk coffee shop, in this repurposed gas station building, closed quite a while ago and the building has yet to be sold.  It was a cute idea.  Sherman Perk, its sister coffee shop, seems to still be open; I used to make a point to stop there when I was on Roosevelt Drive, which is a route I don't take anymore.  This 3/50 project is making me think of local businesses that I like but seem to have a tenuous existence."

Perhaps someone knows exactly when the brief window was in which the shop was open in an otherwise long-vacant building.  (To give you an idea, I'm pretty sure the service station had already closed when I passed this corner every day on the way to and from Glen Hills Middle School.  That would have been 1986!)

I stopped by Le Reve in Wauwatosa on Friday night, but ended up not opting to stay for dinner (no particular reason, just a mood thing).  I noticed that they have outside seating available now.

The Grace Place Coffee Lounge exists to serve the needs of not only caffeine-hungry members of downtown's Grace Lutheran Church, it also is open to the public every day.

Decaf: A Life Less Caffeinated

Every so often, I have a phase where I try to cut back on caffeine.  I'm in one of those now.  I'm sitting at Alterra drinking a mug of the decaf of the day, which is probably the best drip coffee I've had--either regular or unleaded--in the last few weeks.  The bag of beans and double espresso from Stone Creek Coffee pictured here are both decaf.
