Today, I stopped at a Starbucks for a tall Ubora Blend and used my Starbucks Card, on which I believed my balance to be a buck and change. I asked to use up the balance and pay the rest in cash. The barista told me that the balance was actually enough, and printed it out for me. There's 7.40 left on the card. What this boils down to is that Starbucks added $7.50 (give or take) to my card.
I've read that Starbucks does this, and it's also true that I've put a substantial amount of funds on the card in the past couple months (the account history is below the cut). You math majors out there will have to tell me what percent "cashback bonus" this is equivalent to. However, I have to admit that I am falling for this hook, line and sinker—as I always do for "free money" giveaways. I'm reminded of the $300+ tax refund checks in the early months of the Bush disaster-stration.
