Just came from Whole Foods. Those who know me--even just a little--would think I lived there, but I don't. It's too far off the Oak Leaf Trail to reach on foot, too much of a pain to drive to (and park at), too big, and too expensive! However, a couple things about tonight's visit just might have me returning more often.
They just received a shipment of Intelligentsia's legendary Black Cat espresso, roasted on July 30 (I checked the date on the bottom next to the UPC; all Black Cat bags were dated 7/30 but others were older, like from April). If this blog indeed does its first road trip to Chicago soon--which is likely--I will have to catch a Saturday morning Intelligentsia factory tour. Needless to say, a bag of Black Cat went home with me, even though it's a bit pricey at $11.99 for 12 oz. Stay tuned for the review!
The icing on the cake was provided by lovely checkout clerk Kelly, who asked me if I wanted paper, plastic, or no bag. Actually, I think she might have said "paper, plastic or naked?", because the woman working the info desk a few feet away shot her a nasty look after I was done being rung up (I was about to say being checked out, but that might be flattering myself!). Leave it to me to not realize I'm being flirted with until an hour later! When I said no bag, she said, "Mother Earth says Namaste" and gave the corresponding gesture. Namaste to you too, Kelly!
